Welcome to the ‘Masters of Modern Art and Architecture’ group. This group follows on from the ‘Discussions on Modern Art’ group of 2025. In this group, each session focuses on an important modern painter, sculptor, photographer or architect from the late 1800s up until the present day. We will look closely at specific works of the chosen artist/architect and discuss their value, importance and influence on our visual culture.
The group convenor (Neil) will lead on some of the sessions and will encourage others within the group to select and lead on modern artists of their choosing. You’ll be encouraged to explore the selected artist(s) before the session and bring your thoughts and views to the group discussion. Artists and architects under discussion will include Picasso, Mondrian, Rennie Mackintosh and Cindy Sherman.
