Canasta originated in South America in 1939. It’s an enjoyable social pastime and helps keep the mind active.  We are a lively group and beginners are welcome as well as experienced players.

It is far simpler than Bridge and without that game’s formality. We play with two packs of cards and initially you make melds of 3 cards of the same value which you build on to make a Canasta (7 cards).  Cards have different values according to their face value and the purpose of the game is to reach 5000 points.

We usually play in groups of four but no one is turned away and so games can also be played with five or six participants.
