St Ives (Cambs)

Fictional Cambridgeshire

This month we heard about authors and locations involving Cambridgeshire.

We began by learning about Lucy Boston and Hemingford Manor. where her children's books "The Children Of Green Knowe" were set.

Then we heard about the author Philippa Pearce and her novel "Tom's Midnight Garden". We focussed on the skating section when Tom and Hattie skated to Ely.

Next we looked at P.D.James and the setting of her novels.

Dorothy L. Sayers lived at Bluntisham as a child and her novel "The Nine Taylors" was set in the Fens.

We heard about Tom Ridley Sharpe and in particular his novel set in a Cambridge college "Porterhouse Blue".

We know the TV show Grantchester based on the novels of James Runcie but this time we were introduced to the prequel and Rev. Chambers experience of WW2.

We briefly mentioned Rev. W. Awdry and Rosie Zanders before ending with a quiz based on films set locally.
