This month we looked at the pubs of St. Ives starting in the 19th century. We included pubs, beer houses, inns, taverns etc. in fact all establishments that we might call licensed premises. We compared the number of pubs in the town then to today and we saw the impact of the Monday market. When the market went into decline the number of pubs went down. Lynette talked to us about the Pike and Eel and Holywell and the links to Over. We looked at the names of the pubs and how they changed over time. We concluded with some of the latest additions eg. The Snug and the Whisky Cafe.
