Group Leaders Handbook - Section 9

HEALTH & SAFETY

St Ives u3a has a large and diverse number of members, groups and activities but every group should consider the health and safety aspects
appropriate to their activity. A risk assessment is the recommended way to identify any hazards and risks associated with the activity beyond those normally encountered in everyday life. For some activities it is appropriate to ask members to complete their own risk assessment before taking part, ensuring that confidentiality is respected. Further guidance and risk assessment templates are available on the website. The full Health and Safety document is available here.

Accidents and incidents

  • If an emergency incident occurs, call the emergency services as soon as possible.
  • Complete an Incident Report Form, as it is important to have an accurate record.
  • Report all accidents and incidents to our Committee Secretary as soon as possible.
  • If damage is caused to property, take full details as it may be the subject of an insurance claim.
  • Some groups ask members to hold or provide emergency contact (ICE) telephone numbers.  Check whether you have one for the affected person.
