Group Leaders Checklist - Existing Group

Before your first meeting as a new leader of an existing group

  • Talk to our Group Support Team who will assign you a Group Supporter.
  • Understand the group’s existing activities and plans.
  • Read the group’s web page.
  • Agree the commitment you and others can make to the group.
  • Understand the group’s financial position eg ongoing income and expenditure, and current cash-in-hand.
  • Are you content for previous activities to continue and are existing finances sustainable?  If not, what changes are you proposing?
  • Do existing members of the group know about the change of leadership?  Should they be sent an email to explain?
  • Discuss with your IT Supporter whether changes need to be made to the group’s Website page or its Beacon record.
  • Draft text to advertise the change of leadership, and send to our Magazine Editor.

At your first meeting as a new leader

  • Consider asking your Group Supporter to attend.
  • Explain your background briefly to the members.
  • Set out your ideas for any changes to the group’s activities.
  • Invite comments from members and listen carefully.
  • Discuss with your Group Supporter afterwards.
