None of us knows much, if anything, about AI, so let’s learn together. AI (artificial Intelligence) is changing the world we live in, and is set to transform it beyond imagination.
Click on the link below and it takes you to the social media site X (still Twitter to many of us). It’s just an idea, a concept product, showing how AI could one day work in health care:
Whether you are interested in just about anything — technology, society, philosophy, art, culture, writing, engineering... you name it, AI is shaking the foundations of our understanding. It’s exciting and it’s scary. Let’s be clear. We are finding our way from a very (we mean very) low base.
If we can work out how to do it, we’ll use free materials on YouTube to try some of the simpler AI tools ourselves. Goodness knows how at this stage, but we’ll find out together and with the help of just a few u3a groups around the country who are, thankfully, one or two steps ahead.
We’ll also discuss, and have different views on, the huge benefits when AI is used ethically; the huge dangers when it isn’t. And, together, we’ll gradually increase our understanding.
You’ll be encouraged to take turns at discovering things and sharing what you’ve found. Or you can just tag along for a while — and be amazed.
Initially, we’ll meet on Zoom without cost on the first Monday of each month (10am-12 noon) and try to sort recordings for those who can’t make it then. We’ll talk about some in-person sessions as well. If you need help with Zoom (or anything else) to take part, let us know when you join our mailing list by clicking on the blue envelope above.
There are a lot of u3a resources on AI, for example the AI Library.
