How to Join

You can now join online! Here's how:

  • Please go to https://u3abeacon.org.uk/u3ajoin.php?u3a=392&sc=PMDI
Beacon is our membership system, run by the National u3a organisation on behalf of us all.
  • Joining online via Beacon does require you to use PayPal technology to pay with a credit or debit card, but you do NOT need a PayPal account. PayPal tries to steer you to set up an account, but you do NOT need to.
  • There is no need to enter an emergency number into Beacon, nor a photo.
  • We can claim Gift Aid from HMRC on your membership subscription at no additional cost to you. If you are a UK taxpayer, and have paid sufficient tax, please tick the Gift Aid box when it appears.

But for the time being, you can still download the New Member Application Pack and apply on paper:

  • Please download the New Member Application Pack. This contains more information about our u3a, what it means to be a member, and how to apply.
  • Printed copies of the Application Pack are available from St Ives Library and at our monthly Members' Open meetings.
  • We can claim Gift Aid from HMRC on your membership subscription at no additional cost to you. If you are a UK taxpayer, and have paid sufficient tax, please submit the Gift Aid Declaration Form included in the New Member Application Pack.

The annual fee payment is £13, but the first payment is reduced for people joining after 30th September.

As well as being able to attend monthly Members' Open meetings and join Interest Groups, members receive the national u3a magazine (u3a Matters) and our own Newsletters and Magazines, and can use the national u3a resources.

Membership cards

When you join you will be issued with a Membership card with your name and membership number on it, and a barcode that can be scanned at Members' Open Meetings for booking-in. As "cards for life", they are not dated and remain valid for as long as you renew your membership.

You will also receive a copy of our "Welcome" leaflet, which has all sorts of information. Click on the image to read it.

(This is a useful document for every member, and printed copies are available at every Members' Open Meeting.)

You can contact us about any Membership issues by email by clicking here: Membership Secretary*, or in person before any Members' Open Meeting on the second Thursday of each month in the Corn Exchange - 1.20-1.50pm (before the meeting starts at 2pm).
